Thai Country Club Details
18 holes par 72 (7151 yards)
The Thai Country Club, managed by Peninsula Hotel of Bangkok as well as Hong Kong, is a luxurious members’ only golf course. It is a pace setter in service excellence and for this reason alone is considered the cream of the crop. It was designed by the famous Denis Griffiths according to USPGA standards. Thai Country Club later opened its doors on December of 1996 and has become the doyen of the regions courses.
The expansive 7,157 yard course hosted the Asian Honda Classic in1997, that was won by Tiger Woods who went ahead to get a 10-stroke victory following his score of 68 in the final round for a 20 under par sum of 268 in the championship. The following year saw the hosting of the 2nd round of Johnnie Walker Super Tour whose victory was lifted by Vijay Singh, after carding an impressive 66 on the scorecard – with Jesper Parnevik and Ernie Els 2 strokes behind him.
The superb Thai Country Club conditions were utilized during the annual 2007 and ’08 Volvo Masters, and more recently in 2017 the Asian Tour returned with the Thailand Open.
As expected, the Thai Country Club golf course is well maintained throughout the year, has a great assortment of features from one hole to the next and has many sand bunkers and water hazards. With its flawless conditioning and presentation, combined with an exquisite classic layout, the course is on many occasions ranked in Asia’s top 5.
Looking at the course, one would never think that its terrain was ever flat especially with the nicely undulating earth mounds, the elevated greens and not forgetting the contoured fairways. It’s simply a work of art if you look at the fairways and green bunkering. There’re also some semi-rough patches to make the game the more challenging.
The rolling greens are such in a way that offers good pin placement positions and are a great way to gauge how good you are at golf. Among the 18 holes, there are some that are pretty dramatic and top of the class. The 6th for example, measures 218 yards from back tees and has water guarding on the right and bunkers both at the front and at the back of the green. Competition statistics have rendered the hole the most challenging in the Thai Country Club golf course; professionals getting 3.38 stroke average. The par 5 14th hole is also interesting.
An astute golfer will definitely appreciate the top-notch experience available here. The caddies here are some of the best skilled all over Thailand. The Thai Country Club's clubhouse has won many awards including No1 in Asia.
The facilities of an exclusive club as the Thai Country Club play second fiddle to none. The Gallery restaurant menu keeps changing and features Thai, Japanese, Western and Chinese cuisine and daily buffets. There’s a golfer’s lounge that is the best place to unwind and also meet with the others. The views available at the course are nothing short of spectacular and Thailand golf doesn’t get any better at the Thai Country Club.
