Muang Kaew Golf Club Details
18 holes par 72 (7015 yards)
Possibly one of the closest golf course to central Bangkok, the Muang Kew Golf Club has become popular among Bangkok golfers and golf vacationers alike. It was designed back in 1992 by American designers Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt, who returned a few years ago to renovate and re position a few greens and bunkers. The newer course has 18 well-protected greens of which many are raised and act as catchment areas. This design feature is unique to this region and rarely seen on golf courses in Thailand.
The owners at Muang Kaew also manage the popular Chiangmai Highlands golf club as well, and the excellent standards and service are available at both clubs.
The fairways are broad allowing players to relax a little during approach shots. Many of the fairways are unable to hold greens mostly because of high lipped bunkers, shaved fringes and the risen feature.
With each progressive hole the game appears to become get more exciting. Different holes are found on the back nine the first of which is the par-5 13th which is both exciting and offers a great reward for the risk. On this hole, players have a blind tee shot and an approach shot over a large and nerve-racking water hazard. For shorter hitters, an opportunity to experience the dogleg and green is presented as long as they can hit a ball 150 yards over the water.
On the par-5 18th, short approach shots that lean towards the right will end up in the blind pond which guards the green. This hole comes at the end of the nine.
If you wish to eat some of the finest Western dishes available in Bangkok, the clubhouse at the Muang Kaew Golf Club serves some of the best. A variety of men’s and women’s golf clothes can be bought at the pro shop. Even though the course is very close to Bangkok, it is still well maintained and offers golfers an opportunity to have a good golfing experience. Its close proximity to the city also reduces the amount of time needed to travel to the course.
Muang Kaew’s greens are made with Tiff Eagle turf and its fairways have Paspalum grass. These surfaces give this course its top of the range quality making it better than most courses in Bangkok. The course however lacks a driving range and its clubhouse is in need of some renovation. The outer ring road which divides the 12th and 13th holes is also another disadvantage on this course. Despite these drawbacks, Muang Kaew is a course that will suit your day of golfing.
