Bangkok Golf Club Details
18 holes par 72 (6812 yards)
The 1990s saw a construction boom when entrepreneurs built several golf courses located close to the city of Bangkok. One of these was the Bangkok Golf Club. So far it has hosted many professional events among them being the Asian Tour’s Volvo Masters held in 2003.
Unfortunately in 2011, due to the massive Bangkok floods, it was necessary to close the course for over a year. Good news is they were able to reconstruct the greens and cut down the more mature trees, and when it re opened in 2012, they came up with a more user-friendly par 72 6,812 yard course.
The course surrounded by office blocks, school, Buddhist temple, some local housing as well as some industrial buildings is located inside high walls which block out the activities of the external world, giving the golfer an opportunity to experience a well looked after, exciting golf course.
In spite of the short course which stretches to slightly more than 6800 yards from the back tees, golfers need not feel discouraged at all. At first, the course’s similarity to a garden coupled with the deer and foul which have made the course their home may distract you. However, once you make a double-bogey or two, you will find that you are better able to concentrate on the game.
When a player hits a narrow fairway and avoids the water hazards, he is considered to have made a good score. The water hazards are to be found along the top-notch par-3s. The 11th hole is a short, top par-3 hole. The tee shot has to be strong enough to send the ball over the water and carry the bunker blocking the front of the green. This calls for a lot of confidence. In 1991, Golf Magazine voted the 9th double dogleg par-5 as the world’s top 500 golf holes.
The greens are undulating and fast but you need not worry. Caddies here have a vast knowledge of the course and most can read the majority of the hollows and slopes that make up the excellent putting surfaces.
Additional amenities include the Bangkok Golf Club which has the traditional Thai massage, locker rooms, a variety of Japanese and international restaurants as well as a pro shop which has adequate provisions.
If you are in need of practice facilities, you can make use of the putting green, dedicated chipping areas, and the driving range. For the entire Bangkok golf resort holiday package, you can utilize the accommodation facilities available. Late afternoon and night golf is also possible what with the floodlights that light up the course.
