Windsor Park & Golf Club Details
36 holes par 72/72 (6970/6873 yards)
Set in on an enormous park in the suburbs of Bangkok is the majestic Windsor Park Golf & Sports Club. The course holds over 6 000 stems of plants, an abundance of greenside bunkers, ponds, creeks coupled with sloping greens.
Formerly called the Panya Park, the Windsor Park prides itself as having two 18-hole championship standard courses with the A, B, C nines adjoined thanks to the fresher and slightly different D-course. All of the first twenty seven holes were commissioned simultaneously having similar characteristics in terms of design and from the first the three courses. Even though the course looks a bit short, water is included in every hole therefore an accurate shot is highly advised. The greens are similarly kept slow hence speeding up the play and providing a level playing field for pros and amateurs.
The A-nine (Lagoon) and the B-nine (Palm) recipe stretches to above 6 900 yards of parkland golf with some garden-like tinges here and there. An approach shot on the Lagoon’s opening hole is completely secured by lofty palm trees lining the fairways and water’s appearance to a neatly bunkered green. There are different views of the hole depending on where you look from. The tee view will be a fairway with a good width, one side with bunkering and water on the opposite side.
As you move onto the green, you get introduced to various defenses among them water hazards, island greens, profound green side bunkering, sharp doglegs, mild elevation changes as well as regular rocks and boulders. Although a number of the well-manicured fairways are adjacent to one another, they are rather separated by a significant width of semi-rough together with trees of various types. The parity 3 3rd hole (B-nine) has the widest collection of bunkers in the middle of tee and green as part of a layout design by Ron Fream.
They created a 9-hole course D in 2006, and is an exciting addition and an extreme challenge. The course is set around an artificial lake. It is mandatory for one to get accurate for both approach and tee shots in order to avert the fate of balls falling into water. Rising, falling and the closely cut greens intensify the challenge.
For instance, the long par 5 3rd hole on course D has water on the whole of the left side with the right being off limits. The long and narrow green is angle left to the adjacent fairway thus an extremely aggressive left drive might entice one take on the greenside in two. However, this is risky due to the water carry and tiny landing area.
In comparison to most Bangkok golf courses, the upkeep of Windsor Park is more or less average. The club has a large clubhouse overlooking Course C’s 9th hole which could use some renovations and improvements since it is quite aged. All the same, western breakfasts in addition to other Thailand and Asian cuisines are served at the restaurant. The staff at Windsor Park is knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. They are also very keen and attentive to your needs. Caddies who have had experience will freely advice on putting skills at your request.
The Windsor Park & Golf Club has won the hearts of many locals as well as those of the Korean and Japanese golfers. It is most ideal for those golfers looking to have a Bangkok golf tour, Bangkok golf holiday or simply a Thailand golf vacation. It is away from the city’s madness and therefore good place to get rejuvenation. At the same time however, don’t be anxious about course D not unless you in search of the next golf supreme challenge.
