Rose Garden Golf Club Details
18 holes par 72 (7085 yards)
The Thai-owned and managed Rose Garden Golf Club is among the oldest, renowned golf courses in Thailand. In 1992 this course played host to the Thailand Open. Later, two international golf magazines voted the Rose Garden among the top 24 golf courses the world over.
Possibly better known is that both Jutanugarn sisters started learning to play golf here, as the Dad owned the pro shop at Rose Garden. Ariya and Moriya went onto to play and win around the world on the LPGA tour.
The course is maintained significantly well and flows into older trees and thick vegetation. The Rose Garden, just like its name, is a beautiful, peaceful course. Between January and April the course’s beauty is even more breathtaking what with flowers and trees that are visible all around it.
The fairways are narrow, the greens heavily bunkered and grounds are relatively flat. To make a good score, players must make precise approach shots. After the white tee, the course changes slightly. It becomes shorter and yet poses a challenge to players ensuring that they do not lose interest in the game.
The beauty of the course if further enhanced by the water that is around the course. This water adds to the challenge on the course. The club’s uniqueness is enhanced by the fact that all the holes have two greens each on the right and left. This double feature allows for play on each hole to be shared between the two greens, ensuring that they last longer. It also gives golfers who wish to play several rounds a different angle to the game. The whole round is highly diversified and finishes of with two par-5s.
The round is made more interesting by the par-5 holes. The highlight of these is the 11th. On this hole a player who wishes to negotiate the left and dogleg, must hit to the right from the tee. The second shot is quite challenging. The third shot must be an expert shot. The par-5 17th is a risk-reward test and players can reach it in two. Players can hit a birdie if they stay close to the trees on the left. A partially blind shot made over bunkers and contoured mounds, is the best way of overcoming the challenge on the left green.
The clubhouse at Rose Garden Golf Club is fairly old but well-kept and clean. There is also a driving range and putting green along with a restaurant whose menu includes Japanese and Thai dishes. Kiosks found on the course serve reasonably-priced refreshments. All snacks come from Thai cuisine.
The prices of the club are very reasonable. However, there are some downsides such as the poor service, the uniforms of the caddies which need to be renewed and the long distance from Bangkok discourages visitors to the club. Accommodation is available on the course. This has been rated at 3 stars making the place suitable for locals who wish to stay the night. International visitors will do to seek alternative accommodation.
