Thana City Golf & Sports Club Details
18 holes par 72 (6966 yards)
Thana City Golf and Sports Club, twenty-five minutes from Bangkok downtown, is one of the rare golf courses in S. E. Asia that’s the Australian Greg Norman’s design. The 72 Par golf course spans a whole 6966 yards and is placed in the idle of the biggest condo project in Bangkok. Furthermore, it’s easily accessible from the Suvanabhumi airport.
The golf club located in Bangkok has hosted key professional and international tournaments; Thailand Open in 1993, Kosaido Thailand Ladies Open in 1994 and also in 1995 and the Johnnie Walker Super Tour (final round) in 1996, with Ernie Els winning the tournament. Other legends that have teed on the fairways here include Greg Norman, Laura Davies, Ian Woosnam, Vijay Singh and the Thailand’s own star Tongchai Jaidee.
Significant improvements as well as face-lifts have been carried out on the club’s course and clubhouse in 2010 placing Thana City in the list of the most enjoyable golf courses in Bangkok. Every hole has its special character and golfers should be ready to have their prowess challenged.
The landscape of the golf course has numerous native trees coupled with flowering bushes. Reeds, plain grasses and a lot of sand have been used to design a seaside-like illusion right at the heart of Bangkok’s largest condominium projects. The natural lakes, streams and a whole lot of tactically positioned sand traps enhance the layout of the course. The greens are well-trimmed and the drainage functional to allow playing all year round.
To avoid the abundance of fairway bunkers as well as to get a generally good score, one take get their tee shots accurately. The partly thin area is a bit tough and rather demanding to get your strokes from if you happen to wander off the fairways with great breadth. Though the fairways have good width and are pretty attractive from a distance, most actually narrow down requiring one to make challenging shots that will land squarely on the greens. High-edged bunkers, in particular the greenside are common here and in abundance.
The third, fourth, fifth and twelfth holes each has an island green that calls for more crafty shots. The 18th and final hole is parity 4 and plays pretty above 440 yards. Evidently, it is an interesting challenge on its own. Water is put in play all the way on the right side and all-round the green meaning you hit the island green with either a tricky long iron or a wood approach. In addition, fairway bunkers on both sides intensify the task. One can be happily content with a bogey.
Besides the course, other amenities include ultramodern well-maintained practice facilities, driving range, swimming pool, golf academy and clubhouse. Well, here’s the best part, there’s also a pro shop that is well stocked in addition to having easily affordable items unlike other Bangkok Golf courses. Great Western, Chinese, Japanese and Thai cuisines accompanied with a current beer promotion are also served by very friendly and skilled personal. Our cuisines are very popular that at times even the restaurant ends up falling short of some of them. Therefore, booking early will save you all the trouble.
Thana City Golf & Sports Club is the place to be to get the most value for your money along with top-notch and convenient Thailand golfing experience; whether on a Thailand golf vacation, Bangkok golf tour, Bangkok golf holiday or want to simply enjoy one round. Caddies and other staff are nothing short of competent at what they do. All these qualities make the Thana City golf course among the best for Bangkok golf.
